The Bible Study by Zach Windahl – Book Review

I LOVE to read! And books that strengthen my relationship with Jesus are my favorite! I also love sharing books that have impacted me with other people so that they can be encouraged and equipped too.  That’s the inspiration behind the Book Reviews section of this blog.  Me, recommending books to you, that will help grow your faith, and connect you with authors I love and content I believe in. So…

Here are my thoughts on The Bible Study by Zach Windahl and why you should read it.

What’s It About

The Bible Study is the product of Zach Windahl’s journey as a frustrated millennial struggling to make deep roots in his faith and develop a relationship with Jesus that was truly his own. Embracing a personal “search for meaning” journey, Zach read the entire Bible in 90 days and then spent another nine months in Australia studying the Bible for 12 hours a day. The result? He came away with an understanding of how the Bible presents Christianity, not just how American culture presents Christianity, and a firm foundation in his faith in Christ.  He’s created The Bible Study as a resource for you so you can do the same.

The Bible Study is a year-long study of the Bible and how it relates to you, spanning from Genesis to Revelation. The study is broken into two full-color workbooks (available in print and digital formats), one for each Testament. Each workbook includes a week-by-week study plan, overviews of the Old and New Testaments, key character outlines, introductions to each book of the Bible and specific questions for each book of the Bible for you to answer as you work through it. In Zach’s own words, it’s a Bible study designed for the Millennial Christian to help our generation get back into the Word of God.

How It Impacted Me

One of the most important things I’ve learned in my walk with God is the value of reading through the Bible a book at a time and really studying it, taking notes and praying into the biblical themes and how they reveal God and apply to my life. It never gets old. It’s so fun to have such a relevant resource that’s so well put together to help me continue doing that.

I’m excited to keep working through the study and see how God writes His Word even deeper on my heart and helps me understand things I haven’t grasped before.  Recently, I’ve been wanting to read and study through the Old Testament, but discipline is not a thing that I’m great at 😉 , so The Bible Study is such a gift to help me dive into that Old Testament study in the next several months.

Favorite Quote

“My whole reason for this journey was to build a firm foundation in my faith. One that could not be crumbled by society. And that’s exactly what I got. Plus more.

And that’s my hope for you. That you are able to build a firm foundation in your faith over the next year. Especially in a time when understanding the Word is one of the most important things that you can do”. – Zach Windahl, The Bible Study

Why You Should Read It

I think Zach put it so well in the quote above. It’s vital for every Christian to have a firm foundation in our faith and a firm understanding of the Word of God. Honestly, knowledge of what God’s Word actually says, let alone actually believing and living out what God’s Word says, is something that is massively lacking in our society, especially amongst millennial Christians.

Reading the Bible book-by-book or studying a book of the Bible step-by-step, all the way through isn’t common practice amongst most Christians today but, again, I can testify that in my life it has been the most powerful way for me to study the Scriptures. I believe it will be for you too.

I’m so grateful for the devotional books and verse of the day type of resources that we have accessible to us today to help encourage us in our walk with God, but reading God’s Word that way only won’t help us grasp the context, themes and message of Bible. And that is essential to making sure we are correctly reading, interpreting and applying the Bible. A lot of us know single verses here and there, and a few inspirational thoughts but we don’t know the biblical context in which those verses were said, how they fit into the overall story of the Bible and what they truly mean to their original audience and to our lives today.

The Bible Study will help you systematically read through and process Scripture and understand how it relates to you.  Zach refers to building a firm foundation in our faith.  A firm foundation is something that needs to be established piece-by-piece, brick-by-brick and going through The Bible Study will help you do exactly that in a way that is fun and relatable, rich and practical.

Hey there! I would presume he has a public one somewhere but I’m not sure. The Brand Sunday is his website. That would be a good place to check. Hope this helps!

I received my books and am confused. I don’t know where to find the reading assignments for each week. I also saw that I was supposed to meet with a group and I have no idea what that is all about. I just want to do the program on my own. I need to know where to find the weekly reading assignments.
